The Independent National Electoral Commission says it has nothing against the conduct of primary by the All Progressive Grand Alliance, to pick its candidate for the Anambra state governorship election.
INEC’s National Commissioner on Voter Education, Festus Okoye, said APGA has not violated any of its guidelines to warrant interfering in how the party chooses a candidate.
Some media reports have claimed that INEC has disqualified APGA from contesting in the election scheduled to take place in November.
In an interview monitored on TVC NEWS at 10pm on Thursday, Mr Okoye, who is also the spokesman of the commission, said that the commission has no issues with the leadership of APGA.
“In fact, the National Chairman of the APGA will soon be given access to upload the details of the candidates the party has nominated for the election,” Okoye said.
He added that INEC position does not stop any member of the party who is dissatisfied with the process or feels that the party has violated any section of the electoral act from seeking the intervention of the court.
APGA on Wednesday conducted her primary in Awka, capital of Anambra state, where former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Prof. Charles Soludo, emerged as the candidate of the party.
Mr. Okoye stressed that the commission will as much as possible, stay away from internal workings of any political party, particularly when specified guidelines are being followed.
