The new commissioner of Police in Rivers state Zaki Ahmed says the
Federal Government is aware of the orgy of violence rocking the state.
The commissioner said the alarming level of violence in the state was
as a result of high proliferation of illegal arms in the state.
He stated this during the inaugural media briefing help in Port
Harcourt on Tuesday.
He said the command will soon embark on onslaught against criminals
and criminal dens in the state.
He also disclosed that the command will create a data base for
arrested suspects and criminals to facilitate speedy investigation
and prosecution.
Ahmed assured that there will be zero tolerance to corruption among
Policemen and citizens of the state.
The commissioner of Police which resumed yesterday after been deployed
from Bauchi state .
He said ‘am delighted to be in your midst as the commissioner of
Police based on the confidence reposed in me by the Inspector General
of Police, I must commend the efforts of the command of officers in
crime fighting, River state is strategic to the economic development
of the country’.
‘we will investigate arrest and prosecute offenders who are culpable
of any crime, we will carry out our constitutional mandate without
fear of favour.’
‘I have identified two clear problems that are bedeviling the state
and they are political tussle and criminality, the state must be
hospitable to business to thrive.’
Special check points and stop and search must be reawakened .
‘we shall build date base to capture arrested criminals and
exhibits recovered according to periods. We shall embark on massive
recovery of illegal arms , this illegal weapons have been used to
kill, rob, and kidnap, a massive onslaught have been put in place to
recover illegal arms, assailants have not been brought to book while
victims cry for justice , there shall be zero tolerance for corruption
and we shall ensure protection of human rights. Every complaint of
corrupt practices must be investigated’
‘my mission to this state is to fight crime, I shall try to remove
myself from politics because it is a distraction.
