The executive secretary of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria,
Jim Obazee, has been sacked by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The president also ordered the reconstitution of the council.
Adedotun Sulaiman has been appointed as chairman and Daniel Asapokhai
as the new executive secretary for the council.
This was disclosed in a statement by Garba Shehu, the senior special
assistant to the president on media and publicity.
Sulaiman was a former managing partner/director of Arthur Anderson and
later, Accenture. He is a chartered accountant. He is a graduate of
the University of Lagos and Harvard Business School
Asopokhai is a partner and a financial reporting specialist at the
PricewaterHouseCoopers (PWC), Nigeria. He is a graduate of the
University of Lagos and the University of Pretoria.
Buhari has also instructed the Minister of Industry, Trade, and
Investment to invite the 19 ministries, departments and agencies of
the Federal Government and private sector organizations specified in
the FRC Act to nominate members of the board of the council.
Recall that earlier report disclosed that the Minister of Industry,
Trade and Investment, Okechukwu Enelamah, and Obazee were at
loggerhead over a regulation by the FRCN which stipulates 20 years
tenure for heads of religious groups and civil society groups in the
country.
This regulation was the reason Pastor Enoch Adeboye of the Redeemed
Christian Church of God made Pastor Joseph Obayemi the national
overseer of the church in Nigeria.
Enelamah was said to have written the FRC boss asking him not to
implement the controversial regulation but Obazee refused the
instruction of the minister
